Challenge: Casting-free Processing of Ceramics and Refractory Products – Technology Org

[ad_1]

NineSigma, representing a global provider of refractory products, invites responses from Universities, SMEs and large organizations developing Casting-free techniques for ceramics and refractory products.

Our client is a leading supplier of refractory products composed of Aluminium Oxide, and other ceramic formulations. Currently, they are innovating processes for manufacturing their Alumina-silicate specialized products. In the current process, wet powders are cast into a mold and successively dried between 100-300°C to achieve the required physical/mechanical properties.

Casting is a well-consolidated technique, but the high cost of the customized molds/shapes and the processing itself (needing vibration before drying) make it a Capex and Opex-intensive approach.

The client would like to develop new processes that do not require casting and allow to obtain large complex shapes like solid cylinders with a half-sphere at one end (e.g. 120cm long, 12cm diameter), or tubes (e.g. 120cm long, 8-10cm diameter, 3-4 cm thick walls).

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by Dec 13, 2022.
