TikTok, one of the most popular social media apps, has been banned from all devices officially used by U.S. House of Representatives.
A law banning this app across the entire U.S. government will soon go into effect, too.

TikTok is a social media platform that allows users to create and share short-form videos, including those that are lip-syncing, comedy, and education. It is particularly popular among younger users and has gained significant popularity in recent years.
TikTok has a market share of up to around 20-25% in the social media app market. This places it behind Facebook, which has a market share of around 50%, and behind YouTube, but ahead of other popular social media platforms such as Snapchat, Telegram, Pinterest, Reddit, and Twitter.
TikTok’s popularity and market share have made it a key player in the social media landscape and have contributed to its rapid growth.
Now, however, this app is considered “high risk due to a number of security issues,” as it was stated by the U.S. House’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) on Tuesday. From now on, this app must be deleted from all devices officially managed by the House.
Due to security concerns associated with the potential possibility of the Chinese government using it as a medium to track users and censor content, the U.S. government has been steadily moving toward a wide-scale ban on TikTok. Recently, 19 U.S. states have imposed at least partial restrictions and blocked the app from state-managed devices.
The legislation to ban the app on all federally managed devices is nearly complete and will take effect when it is signed by President Joe Biden.
U.S. lawmakers have also proposed a nation-wide ban on TikTok.
