Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is considering opening its first European plant in Dresden, Germany.
According to the Financial Times, the negotiations with suppliers are already in the advanced stage. Early in 2023, TSMC is aiming to discuss the most important business-related aspects with the German government, including potential support from the state and the capacity of the local supply chain.
“We do not rule out any possibility but there is no concrete plan at this time,” commented representatives of TSMC. The company is also building its first plant in Japan, and is already considering building the second manufacturing facility in this market.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is the world’s largest contract chipmaker. If the plant is established in Germany, 22-nanometre and 28-nanometre microchip technologies would be its main focus.
